When Dennis Petryshyn checked his winning $1.000.000 lottery ticket, he thought his eyes are playing tricks on him, and his wife Marjorie reacted the same way when he sent her a text sharing the lucky news. It took a while for the news to sink in, but the fortunate couple from Saskatoon collected their big cheque a few days ago with big smiles on their face, and were very excited about everything that the future holds.
The fortunate pair won $1.000.000 in the Lotto 6/49 draw on October 14th, with the lucky ticket they purchased from the Silverwood Convenience Store in Saskatoon’s north end. Two days later, Mr. Petryshyn went there again to check his number, only to discover he’s about to receive a life-changing cash reward.
“After I saw the prize amount on the screen, I took the ticket to the clerk. I asked, ‘Does this say a million, or am I missing a dot in there somewhere?’ She checked it, and, it was a million. I couldn’t believe it was happening,“ recalled the fortunate winner.
The Petryshyns don’t intend to leave their jobs right away, but they may consider an early retirement, since the $1.000.000 prize gave them a new sense of financial security. They intend to put it towards making a more comfortable life for them and their four kids, two of whom are already teenagers.
“We have a couple teenagers at home, so that takes care of about half the money. Knowing we can do this comfortably now, instead of wondering where we’re going to get the money – it’s just great,” said Ms. Petryshyn.
