Nova Scotia woman wins $5.300.000 with numbers she dreamed up in 1989

The expression “never give up on your dreams” just got a whole new meaning thanks to an unbelievable story of Olga Beno’s lottery win. All the way back in 1989, this woman from Nova Scotia started playing a set of lottery numbers that came to her in a dream and it finally paid off when she snatched  a $5.300.000 jackpot. Ms. Beno proved that good things come to those who wait, and so could you – buy Mega Millions ticket for Friday’s draw to become $117.000.000 richer!

The fortunate woman matched the winning numbers 1, 5, 10, 15, 40, and 41 in the Lotto 6/49 draw on December 28th, with a ticket she purchased from a Circle K store in Eastern Passage. One day later, she was browsing through the newspaper while talking to her sister on the phone and that was when she spotted the winning combination.

“I know my numbers by heart, and I thought I saw them on the television screen the evening after the draw, but my eyes aren’t good. At first I thought – it can’t be. It’s a mistake in the paper. Then I said to my sister, ‘I think I won the lottery.’ She said ‘Phone me back when you want to tell me the truth,’” recalled the winner.

Ten years ago, Ms. Beno was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and she credits her husband, children and grandchildren with helping her survive the illness. Becoming a millionaire means her whole family will get to enjoy this astounding new-found fortune, but Beno also intends to buy an ranch-style house and take a trip to Disney World, because she is “a big kid at heart”.
