19 hospital workers share $1.000.000 Powerball prize

It is really common for lotto syndicates to win big amounts of money, the same happened to 19 colleagues who work together in the medical records section of Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. The lucky players are now sharing more than office space, they have been playing lotto as a syndicate for four years and their patience paid off in Powerball drawing on August 12th when they scooped a $1.000.000 prize. Try your luck with Powerball and it could make you $100.000.000 richer!

For the last four years, members of the lucky group used to chip in $5 a week for lotto tickets. When they did the same on August 12st, they couldn’t even imagine that the Barnes-Jewish Hospital was about to become the headquarters of good fortune. That very night they matched the five winning numbers 8, 13, 29, 38 and 52, only missing the Power Ball 28 and snatched the amazing $1.000.000 windfall.

Terri Mastis was the one who purchased the golden ticket, but she only found out it was the winning one after receiving the call from a co-worker who realized they matched five out of six numbers.

“He called me at home and told me we had won – the moment was so surreal,” said Mastis.

When she got to work, everyone was laughing and hugging after hearing the news, but they still couldn’t believe that their shared dream came true.

“So I’m trying to pull up my phone look at the numbers on my phone and I look and I’m like ‘Holy cow!’ We just sat there in disbelief for a long time,” recalled another winner Vikki Kellenberger.

Each co-worker will receive around $53.000 before taxes and they plan to use them to go on holidays, pay off bills, and buy some new furniture or cars.

“This win happened at a good time. A lot of prayers have been answered. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer group,” said Mastis.
