If you ever needed a proof that dog is man’s best friend, here comes one - Jane and Alan Slater are £300.000 richer thanks to their labrador retriever Ruby. The couple won a £150.000 Euromillions prize, which was doubled when Ruby uncovered a second winning ticket for the same draw in their car.
The Slaters had already started planning how to spend £150.000 they won on September 29th, completely oblivious to the fact that the second winning ticket had been lying around their car, tucked in a catalogue. Mr. Slater discovered their first win morning after the drawing when he came home from work and decided to immediately alarm his wife.
“I accused Alan of creating an elaborate joke with the TV, but one look at his face was enough for me to realize he was telling the truth,” recalled Mrs. Slater and said they both wandered around the house in shock, not knowing what to do.
As soon as the news of their first win sank in, the couple was in for another surprise. After taking their pets for a walk on October 5th, the Slaters got back to their car and their dog Ruby hopped onto the back seat and disturbed a piece of paper inside a catalogue – but it was no ordinary piece of paper, but another £150.000 winning Euromillions ticket!
"I really can't explain the way this piece of paper floated, it was like you see in slow motion in films, as though someone wanted me to notice it,” recalled Jane Slater.
Her husband added the dogs will get a special treats thanks to their discovery, which is a perfect way to celebrate Ruby’s second birthday.
"The ticket could so easily have disappeared in the rubbish when I tidied up the car, we couldn't help feel that someone was looking down on us," said Alan Slater.
