As Powerball craze took the world by storm, it appeared like all the other lotteries stayed in its shadow, but appearances can be deceiving. Mega Millions drawing on Friday night attracted millions of punters and it made one Staten Island resident $165.000.000 richer. After this lucky player became the first Megamillionaire of 2016, the jackpot has been reset to $15.000.000.
The numbers that enabled this amazing victory were the white balls 11, 39, 51, 57 and 75, with the Mega Ball 2. Two players from Maryland and Texas also had a reason for celebration on January 8th – they snatched $1.000.000 each after correctly matching all the winning numbers, except for the Mega Ball. They joined the group of another twenty Match 5 winners who missed the jackpot by only one digit during the rollover period since November 13th.
The lucky quick-pick ticket was purchased at the Willowbrook Deli, located at 2520 Victory Blvd. on Staten Island. The store manager Sarbjit Singh said that he learned the news at seven in the morning when he got a call from a lottery official.
“We were shocked. We didn’t see the winner yet, but we’ve been asking our regular customers to check their tickets,” said Singh.
After the news of the win broke on Saturday morning, hundreds of people streamed inside to buy tickets for the upcoming Powerball drawing. Customers were glad to hear one of their own became mega rich and were hoping that the store will bring them the same kind of luck.
“You gotta be happy for them. Hopefully the winner is from the neighbourhood,” said one of the customers, Chris Orlando.
Like all the visitors at the store that day, he was eagerly anticipating Powerball drawing few hours later, only to see the jackpot surging to $1.300.000.000. Play now and this mind-blowing windfall could end up in your hands!
