We’ve spent the last two months waiting for someone to come along and match all the winning Mega Millions numbers and it finally happened last night! One lucky punter from Seattle stopped the rollover train in its track and scooped an astonishing $157.000.000 jackpot.
The winning line drawn on March 8th consisted of the main numbers 27, 37, 54, 66 and 69 with the Mega Ball 5. It was matched by one player from the Washington State, but Mega Millions enthusiasts across the U.S. had a reason for celebration last night. The drawing produced two Match 5 winners – one from California who became $1.000.000 richer, and another from Ohio who netted $5.000.000 after using the optional Megaplier.
This is the first time since 2011 that the top Mega Millions prize went to the state of Washington. The previous winners Jim and Carolyn McCullar split a $380.000.000 windfall with another player on January 4th 2011. The couple from Ephrata have been married for over four decades before they hit the jackpot.
“What this means to me is not a jet and traveling all over the world. What this means to me is that the legacy is going to go generation after generation after generation. My kids, my grandkids, my great grandkids and their kids will never have to worry,” said Mr. McCullar after collecting his $190.000.000 prize back in 2011.
The other winners from Washington were the North Bend resident Sommay Rattanakone, who scooped $55.000.000 in 2006, and Pat and Dick Warren from Hoquiam who became $93.000.000 richer after they’ve matched all the winning Mega Millions numbers back in 2002.
