Buying a new car is one of the first things lottery winners plan on doing when they hit the jackpot, and Michael Burkett is no different. After netting $157.000.000 on Mega Millions three weeks ago, the lucky man decided to spend some of that money on a new electric vehicle.
The fortunate man from Seattle matched the winning numbers 27, 37, 54, 66 and 69 with the Mega Ball 5 on March 8th and came forward to claim the prize last week. His family joined him at Washington’s Lottery headquarters in Olympia as he collected the jackpot, which amounts to $102.800.000 before taxes since he chose the one-time cash payment option.
Mr. Burkett didn’t share any details about himself and refused to take a picture with a huge cheque, but he talked about some of his plans for the future. The first thing he purchased after the reality of winning settled in was an Alienware PC from Dell, and he also has his eye on a new red Tesla electric car.
Burkett is currently one of the two Mega Millions jackpot winners this year, and the only one who came forward to this date. Back on January 8th, one player from New York matched all the numbers to win a $169.000.000 jackpot, but almost three months passed by and the lucky person is nowhere to be found. This isn’t the only mystery surrounding a major lottery win – one Powerball player from California is still expected to come forward and claim their share of the historic $1.500.000.000 jackpot won on January 13th.
