Alert Bay retiree plans to share $3.500.000 with his five children

George Speck was just an occasional lottery player who couldn’t even be bothered to check his numbers for months, but even he got intrigued after hearing the news about a $3.500.000 winning ticket being sold in his small town. The lucky Alert Bay resident spent a sleepless night when he realized his ticket was the winning one, because he couldn’t stop re-checking the numbers that turned him into Canada’s newest millionaire.

The former senior administrator, who retired last year, scooped the amazing $3.500.000 Lotto 6/49 prize on March 16th. When he checked the numbers for the first time, Speck’s first instinct was to call his wife Bethany and share the lucky news, but she was convinced it’s all one big joke and didn’t take him seriously.

“She thought I was teasing, she actually got quite annoyed with me. I finally took a photo of the numbers and sent it to her,” recalled Mr. Speck.

When his friends asked him what he intends to do next, his initial plan was to work in his garden, meditate, mill some wood and then meditate some more. Speck eventually started making more elaborate plans – he will buy a new truck for himself and a small fishing boat for Bethany, while the rest of the money will go towards their retirement. They’re also looking forward to sharing the wealth with their 5 kids, ranging in age from 12 to 47.
