Woman battling breast cancer wins lottery twice in three months

It’s wonderful to see when lotto prizes end up in the hands of people who deserve them the most, and Gina Short is a perfect example. This woman from North Carolina, who was diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago, has won two major lottery prizes amounting to $1.250.000.

She scooped $1.000.000 in the Ultimate Millions second-chance drawing in February, which is amazing by itself, but the story of her lotto fortune doesn’t end there. Ms. Short and her husband Len were “in disbelief mode” when the ticket that he purchased for All or Nothing drawing on April 29th made them $250.000 richer.

“It’s not something you can put into words. For us to have the good fortune of winning not just one big prize but two, we are just very thankful for that,” said Len Short.

Some lottery winners can’t easily decide how to spend their prize, but the Shorts already know what the first thing on their agenda is. The money will go towards Ms. Short’s recovery – she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

“With what Gina’s been going through this helps. We’ll use the money for Gina. She’s the priority. She’s number one,” explained Mr. Short.

When she won $1.000.000 back in February, Gina Short was very grateful for a second chance and described her husband as “her unfailing support during surgery and treatments”.

“I might have gone through the breast cancer, but this is the guy that told me not to run. I wanted to give up, but he would not let me give up,” said Ms. Short and added that the prize is going to help her to “truly live”.
