Bogumila Mroczkowski isn’t an avid lottery player, but she decided to purchase one lottery ticket when she stopped at the store to pick up the milk back in April. The fortunate Edmonton resident matched the winning line in the Lotto 6/49 draw on April 30th, after buying the golden ticket at the Shopper’s Drug Mart at 49 Street and 137 Avenue.

“I don’t have a regular habit of buying tickets. I buy when I think of it and I thought of it when I went to the store to get milk,” recalled Ms. Mroczkowski.

The 58-year-old woman felt a range of emotions while scanning the ticket – everything from surprise and disbelief to happiness. She was ready to claim the prize only after checking the ticket time and time again with her husband, but the news is still sinking in.

“You think it’s easy but in reality you’re just in shock. And you keep checking and the numbers are there, but you still are processing. Maybe when I start spending it’s going to be real,” explained the lucky winner.

When it comes to her plans for the future, Ms. Mroczkowski said she intends to retire early after 26 years of working at the same place. She will also use the money to help out her family, buy a new house and travel to Alaska or Hawaii.
