When Roland Reyes and his ten work buddies pitched a couple of bucks into an office pool to buy Mega Millions tickets, they couldn’t predict their lives are about to change forever. The lucky group ended up winning the largest prize in California lotto history, worth $543.000.000. Follow in their footsteps in the next Powerball draw – an astounding $223.000.000 windfall could end up in your bank account!
Reyes and his colleagues matched the winning numbers 1, 2, 4, 19 and 29 with the Mega Ball 20 on July 24th. He believed they would have a better chance of winning if the ticket was purchased at a small “mom and pop shop” so he made a quick stop at Ernie’s Liquors, located on South White Road in San Jose. It was a spur of the moment decision and the group played Mega Millions on a whim after learning how large the jackpot was.
Winners range in age from 21 to 60 and they met at a Wells Fargo office in San Jose. Instead of having a regular lottery syndicate, they give it a try every once in a while by pitching $2 each. News of their victory quickly spread as they kept on calling each other to confirm the win. The eleven members of the syndicate don’t intent to retire early because they love working together. Their prize money will go towards helping out their family members, travelling, paying off mortgages and kids’ college tuitions.
“If I could win, anybody could win. We’re just normal people! We want to keep our jobs. We love that company. We love what we’ve built there. We have a good time and want to stay together,” concluded Reyes.
