One of Canada's leading lotteries, the Ontario 49 Lottery OLG began in 1997 and has been operated by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation since the organisation was created in April 2000.
The first draw for the Ontario 49 was held on October 1st, 1997 and today the Ontario 49 is part of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (in French: Société des loteries et des jeux de l'Ontario). The lottery organisation has been known as OLG since 2006. OLG operates nine draw-style lottery games, including the Ontario 49, through retailers across the province.
At the time of the draw, six regular numbers and one bonus number are drawn from the same lottery drum. A jackpot winner is called when a ticket successfully matches all six guess numbers, regardless of the bonus number which is relevant only for the 2nd and 7th prizes. The Ontario 49’s jackpot is fixed at $2 million per draw and is tax-free. Winning odds start at 1:6.6 for any prize and rise to almost 1:14 million for jackpot prizes.
